We care about your care!

Samantha

Our daughter was born Aug 2008 after a 2 1/2 hour natural breech delivery at 36 weeks. The care we received on that day was amazing, I had total confidence and trusted my Midwife (Andi) and Consultant which took away all my worries about giving birth to a breech baby. I had an absolutely amazing experience that day and will never forget all the people who were involved in the delivery and who made me feel safe (may have been helped by the gas & air!!!). The aftercare we received was excellent aswell, baby was in SCBU for 2 nights, I spent 1 night in Lady Mary then 1 week in Sara Ward with my baby. I only have 2 criticisms about the whole experience....the first night after giving birth I was in Lady Mary Ward with no baby as she was in SCBU. I was in shock as I had given birth at 36 weeks within 2 1/2 hours and I didnt have my baby with me, everything felt unreal. I was shown to my bed and left all night, no BP check or anything. During the next day I had to ask about expressing and insist that I wanted to do it so my baby could benefit as she was being tube fed. I was a little surprised that I had to ask several people before I was given any help. Although I understand how busy the Rosie is and how hard the Midwives work maybe there should be someone who is dedicated to people whose babies are in special care.
I am also very sad to hear that Sara Ward has been closed, it was a Godsend to me and my family and the extra care we received. I imagine that closing the ward has made things very difficult with bed space etc and has put more pressure on the unit as a whole, which is very sad as its such a great place.
Anyway a big thank you to the many people whom I saw throughout my pregnancy. Sam.
