Agreed to run the MSLC Terms of reference broadly in line with the Department of Health Guidelines for MSLCs.
Agreement to develop an annual plan of work for MSLC. BH-L to provide a Trust plan to align with MSLC plan.

Following on from the application of the MSLC audit tool at the last meeting, steps need to be taken to improve the levels that the committee is currently achieving on each of the seven elements assessed by the tool. One of these elements is training which can be discussed separately from the annual plan. It was agreed the remaining six elements should feature on the agendas of forthcoming meetings to plan improvements, between now and the AGM in October 2009. This should start with the element on which we scored at the lowest level

Discussion around the high case load of deliveries and the wider implications of this associated with Patient Choice. MSLC to be kept informed of planning around this issue.
Generally agreed that the AGM was a success with 36 attendees. Good opportunity for networking, an opportunity to hear topical speakers and an opportunity to invite relevant organisations to display literature and information.
VF to draft a proposal to launch an awareness raising campaign to contribute the MSLC annual plan.
It was agreed that SA-M would repeat this survey via email to the NCT members who have had a baby between Oct 07-08
MMcM raised the issue that there is evidence that in a small number of cases, breastfed babies experience adverse side effects when their mothers are given codeine for pain relief. It was agreed that this will be explored further following consultations with the Pain Link Nurses and the Consultant Paediatric Pharmacist. BD to also communicate this issue to the PCT Head Pharmacist.
