Welcome to the website for the Cambridge Maternity Services Liaison Committee
Have your say on the care given to pregnant and new mums and dads in the Cambridge area
The lay members (see below) of the Cambridge Maternity Services Liaison Committee (MSLC) have set up this website to let expectant and new parents who use the Rosie Maternity Hospital and/or who receive antenatal and postnatal care in the community in the Cambridge area know about what we do – and how they can have a say in what services are provided for them.
What is the MSLC?
The MSLC is a committee which advises the Cambridge Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Hospitals Trusts on the care they provide to pregnant women and their partners and the parents of new babies. We exist to make sure that the Trusts listen to and take account of the views and experiences of women who use their maternity services, and their partners.
Who are the members?
• local people who are currently expecting a baby or who have had a baby recently (lay members)
• representatives from voluntary groups who support pregnant women and new parents, such as the National Childbirth Trust and La Leche League (lay members)
• a representative from the Cambridge City PCT, which finances local services
• health care professionals at the Rosie and in the local community, such as senior midwives, obstetricians, health visitors and GPs
The MSLC is chaired and run by lay members.

What does the MSLC do?
The MSLC monitors what services are being provided to expectant and new parents and recommends changes and improvements. It acts as a voice for the people who use these services.
Recently we have
• checked out the facilities provided in the Rosie’s Delivery Unit and Lady Mary Ward and made suggestions about improving them. These suggestions have been incorporated into the design for the Midwife-Led Birth Unit.
• been behind the introduction of the Delivery Unit guide, providing information for those pregnant women and their partners who haven’t been able to go to antenatal classes
• provided input into the Rosie’s information booklet for patients
Our plans for the future include
• developing new ways in which the committee can gather the views of women and their partners directly, e.g. through questionnaires, suggestion boxes in clinics and on wards at the Rosie, and this website
• continuing our work of monitoring local services
• continuing to make sure that you have your say
If you’d like to know more about what goes on at our meetings, click here to read the minutes of recent meetings.
What does the MSLC not do?
Although we’re always interested in hearing comments and suggestions from women and their partners who are using, or have recently used, local maternity services, we don’t deal with queries from individuals about their care, nor are we a channel for complaints.
If you have questions about your maternity care, you can speak your midwife, health visitor or GP, or, if you’d like to discuss your birth experience, in confidence, with a qualified midwife counsellor, you can contact the Rosie’s Birth Afterthoughts Service (ring the Rosie reception 01223 217617 and ask for Birth Afterthoughts).
If you wish to make a complaint about your care, contact Addenbrooke’s Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), phone number 01223 216756/257257.

Get involved!
If you’d like to help with the work of the committee, or to become involved with any of the other committees at the Rosie that include members of the public as members, please contact the MSLC Secretary on or 01223 885702.
Have your say
In order for the MSLC to accurately represent the views of parents who use local maternity services, we need to know what these views are! Your ideas and opinions matter, so please tell us what they are. You can do this very easily by simply going to our message board and posting your comments and suggestions there. So click here and have your say!
